With a varied and extensive experience in the recreation and leisure management industries I have seen the positive impact structured sporting activity provides to children of all ages. As Youth Director of the Lane Cove Rotary Club, I have also witnessed firsthand the generosity of like-minded individuals making a real difference to the common causes they believe in.
I strongly believe my addiction to sport and activity instilled by my parents grounded my upbringing and taught me everything about competition, working as a team and making sacrifices to achieve. I take these qualities into business and life in general. Sport kept me in a circle of friends who participated in structured activity and kept us all out of trouble, which was an issue in our regional town. Without regular sport and activity many of my school friends resorted to vandalism, alcohol and drugs out of pure boredom.
The philosophy of my core business, BlueFit Facilities Management, is to build on the attendance levels of local community swimming pools, gymnasiums, golf courses and other leisure and recreation facilities. The aim of the Foundation is similar, encourage participation in leisure activity. The Foundation therefore builds on our strength of getting families active towards a healthy lifestyle.
There are plenty of great examples of people encouraging kids to participate all around us. The number of dedicated volunteers that run sports clubs and coach and mentor children is remarkable. I draw my inspiration to make this Foundation work from these volunteers, plus the members of Rotary, my parents who remain active in the leisure industry, and our four energetic children Ciara, Jenna, Josh and Scarlett. None of this is possible though without the dedication from my larger family of 450 staff members across NSW and Queensland who are each leaders and passionate about the leisure industry.
